“Chuck, what do you think it would sound like if there was a huge storm outside? What do you think it would sound like if you hit a home run?”
This is how Chuck Leavell’s mother asked him to think about music as he learned to play the piano. As a longtime cornerstone of the rock ‘n’ roll scene, Leavell’s perception of music is entirely unique. “Music has always been more about emotions, and colors, and feelings that it is about notes,” he says during the acclaimed documentary on his life, “Chuck Leavell: Tree Man.”
The Wilson Center at Cape Fear Community College (CFCC) is thrilled to announce that living legend, rock ‘n’ roll keyboardist, and environmental conservationist, Chuck Leavell will appear live on Friday, September 20, 2024 at 7:30 p.m.
After completing yet another tour with the Rolling Stones, Leavell will share a vibrant, touching live show that features a 30-minute viewing of documentary “Chuck Leavell: Tree Man” and a live Q&A with stories of his time on tour, amongst the trees, and musical renditions of his beloved classics.
In the documentary on his life, Chuck quotes Ralph Waldo Emerson, saying, “In the woods, we return to reason and faith.” This sentiment rings true for his time spent on Charlene Plantation, the tree farm, hunting ground, and preservation that he and his wife run together. It was here that Chuck discovered his love for forestry and the environment. Since then, regardless of the success and fame he garners in the music industry, he’s always able to return to his roots in nature. “I’m usually out there on my tractor from sunrise to sundown, working the land,” he tells Business Insider.
From the Allman Brothers Band and the Rolling Stones to John Mayer, Eric Clapton, George Harrison, and Miranda Lambert, Leavell has collaborated with rock ‘n’ roll royalty throughout his career. His notable awards, hall of fame successes, and impressive resume speak for themselves, but one this is unanimous; Chuck Leavell is a stand-up guy. “If there’s a rock ‘n’ roll unicorn it’s probably Chuck,” said Billy Bob Thornton.
Humble, warm, and full of unyielding joy, Chuck Leavell celebrates his musical and environmental legacy at CFCC’s Wilson Center.
