Artsplosion! at the Center

Featuring Squonk Opera

October 10, 11am – 5pm
Main Performance and First Raising of the Curtain, 12pm

Celebrate our first raising of the curtain! Get ready for a collage of performances by CFCC students and local artists on the stage, an arts resources fair in the lobby and a performance by the nationally-acclaimed Squonk Opera in the courtyard. Art everywhere and everyone’s invited!

A visual, musical, and visceral experience, Squonk Opera is an infectious art environment not to be missed! Their newest piece, Pneumatica, the Squonkers pump up the volume with live original music that permeates the air, while inflatables pump up and immerse the audience. It’s all about air: art made of air, powered by air, and performed in the open air!

Figures and tentacles grow, powered by blowers and vortex fans, creating a 40-foot high Lady Pneumatica, complete with a wind turbine crown. Art and music interconnect, the Lady’s lungs are a vertical accordion played like a piano, rising and falling with steamy breath. Squonk’s music draws from the swoops and eddies of air with electronic bagpipes and activates headtubes with wild guitar riffs. Watch Squonk costumes inflate like blowfish.

With the creation of Pneumatica, the Squonkers continue to pursue the most American and democratic of art forms: the public celebration, with boisterous music and surreal image. Squonk taunts and whispers, bellows and caresses, using the very medium of sound: air.
