Broadway for a Better World Grant Cycle Opens Again!

The Wilson Center at Cape Fear Community College and The Arts Council of Wilmington & New Hanover County are pleased to announce that the Broadway for a Better World grant cycle has opened once again. Grants may be submitted for this cycle until 11:59 p.m. on Friday, October 1, 2021.

The Broadway for a Better World initiative is funded through the tremendous generosity of private donors, with the mission of the theater experience and all of its associated benefits available to underserved populations, particularly young people under the age of eighteen.

“The Arts Council of Wilmington & NHC is pleased to partner with the Wilson Center to administer Broadway for a Better World,” says Rhonda Bellamy, Executive Director, “Through this innovative initiative, we are able to introduce our most vulnerable populations to world-class theatrical experiences they may not otherwise be able to attend.”

Nonprofit organizations in New Hanover and Pender counties may apply to receive tickets to Wilson Center PNC Broadway or Stars Series performances.

Previous grant recipients have included such organizations as:

• Cape Fear Literacy Council
• Communities in Schools of Cape Fear
• DisAbility Resource Center
• Domestic Violence Shelter & Services
• DREAMS of Wilmington
• Easter Seals–UCP
• Elderhaus PACE
• Family Promise
• Good Shepherd Center
• The Links, Inc.
• Open House Youth Shelter of Coastal Horizons
• StepUp Wilmington
• Theatre for All
• Volunteer Older Citizens Action League (VOCAL)
• Wilmington Area Rebuilding Ministry (WARM)
• YWCA Lower Cape Fear

In addition to these outstanding non-profit community groups, Broadway for a Better World directly supported the growth and education of students at Cape Fear Community College through ticket grants to classes and student organizations.

“Since its inception, BFABW has made grants of 1388 tickets to community organizations and CFCC students totaling $115,488.00”, says Shane Fernando, Former Vice President for Advancement and the Arts. “This level of care and generosity from our community’s donors speaks volumes about the commitment to expanding access to the live performing arts.”
