Cirque Kalabanté Swings to Center Stage at CFCC’s Wilson Center

Gravity has yet to catch up to Cirque Kalabanté. Acrobats fly through the air, balance on one another’s heads, fall effortlessly into tumbling summersaults, and fold themselves into unbelievable, dynamic shapes. The show is electric, accompanied by live Afro-jazz, percussive beats, and the traditional sounds of the kora, the joy radiating from stage is undeniable. This family-friendly show is a vibrant display of physical agility, cultural harmony, and musical magic.

Cirque Kalabanté will make their Wilson Center debut on Thursday, September 26, 2024 at 7:00 p.m as a part of their legendary acrobatic tour, “Afrique en Cirque.” Yamoussa Bangoura, creative director and founder, tells the story of his daily life in Guinea through circus and African arts.

Yamoussa grew up studying the circus performers on European television, practicing flips and tricks on the beach and dirt around his home in Conakry, Guinea. Little did he know that one day he’d be performing alongside his idols, practicing circus in troupes like Cirque du Soleil, Cirque Eloize, and equestrian tour Cavalia. In 2007, he established his own tour, Kalabanté Productions, and recruited his sisters, brothers, and cousins to share their home culture with the world.

VICE Magzine writes, through “explosive drumming and dance routines, the group delivers mind-blowing acrobatic sequences with extraordinary precision.” The artistry of movement is a feat in itself, but the world built on stage through lighting, costume, color, and sounds transports viewers with this unique immersive experience.

Join us on the edge of our seats to witness the human pyramids, percussive genius, and joyful production of Cirque Kalabanté. Tickets will be available online and through the Wilson Center box office for Wilson Center members on Wednesday, June 19th at 10:00 a.m. and on Thursday, June 20th at 10:00 a.m. for the general public.
