Daloy Dance Company of the Philippines will bring two works to the Wilson Center, Canton & Himalaya, for one night of amazing dance. Daloy Dance Company focuses on non-linear narratives from two different sides of contemporary Filipino society.
Ea Torrado’s Canton: a new, serious work that personifies and explores the daily hardships of poor communities that are often ignored and left behind.
Himalaya featuring the music of Maquiling Music Ensemble allows the viewer a glimpse into the pre-Hispanic Philippines and the idea of Bayanihan, the spirit of communal unity, work and cooperation to achieve a particular goal.
Daloy Dance Company will use these two narratives to compare and contrast the paradoxes of the Philippines in the modern era.
