The precision is astounding. Dancers tap between heel and toe with stunning accuracy, adding a layer of impressive percussion to the music that rises up around them. The traditional perfection of Irish dance is evident, but Riverdance goes a step further. Rather than keeping their arms glued to their sides, the dancers link hands, let their arms fly emotively above their heads, and clap along as soloists fly across the stage. The energy is alive, even 30 years after their inaugural performance.
The Wilson Center at Cape Fear Community College is thrilled to announce the that international dance sensation, Riverdance, will perform three shows live on February 15, 2025 at 7:30 p.m. and on February 16, 2025 at 1:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Experience the magic of Irish and international dance and music that inspired a generation.
After competing as an interval act on the Eurovision Song Contest in 1994, Riverdance touched the hearts of millions of viewers worldwide and transformed the once reserved and traditional act of Irish dance into a modern phenomenon.
The New York Times writes, “I think people forget, or just don’t know, that Riverdance is essentially a variety show; the Rockettes-like lines of Irish dances are the main event, but there’s so much more.” And it’s true, the dance is exquisite, but the music composed by Bill Whelan, storytelling, and national Irish pride is impossible to overlook. The worldwide phenomenon is produced by Moya Doherty and directed by John McColgan.
To celebrate their incredible 30-year milestone, Riverdance will embark on an anniversary tour, bringing the magic of Irish dance and culture to audiences around the world. For the first time in Riverdance history, the troupe will welcome an all-new cast of performers, dubbed the “new generation,” all of whom were born after the show’s historic debut. With innovative new choreography, costumes, and production, this show is a testament to the lasting endurance of Riverdance.
