The MOVE! Dance Series Returns to the Wilson Center!

The Wilson Center at Cape Fear Community College is thrilled to announce the return of the MOVE! Dance Series! This exciting contemporary dance series provides a unique experience for performance goers and connects community groups, organizations, and students from across the region to the arts through masterclasses and numerous residency activities. Each performance features our exclusive, limited, on-stage seating—practically putting you into the dance. It’s dance like you’ve never seen it before!

This year’s MOVE! Dance Series brings together a unique array of dance companies, including Wilmington’s own Techmoja Dance & Theatre Company, the iconic Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company, and the acclaimed Calpulli Mexican Dance Company from New York City.

About Calpulli Mexican Dance Company

The Calpulli Mexican Dance Company’s mission is to celebrate the rich diversity of Mexican and Mexican-American cultural heritage through dance-based programming including live music. The Company produces professional performances through its international touring company, arts-in-education, and cultural enrichment programming to reach audiences globally with high-quality artistic works and captivating stories told through dance and music. The Calpulli Mexican Dance Company will be performing “Puebla: The Story Of Cinco De Mayo.” Two performances are scheduled—Thursday, November 11th at 4:30 pm and 8:00 pm. 

About Techmoja Dance and Theatre Company

Founded by artist and dancer Kevin Lee-y Green, Techmoja Dance and Theatre Company’s mission is to enliven communities, create a deep sense of cultural understanding, and connect people across boundaries through the creative process and performing arts. Community engagement is also a key component of Techmoja’s mission. Through pre and post-show talks, studio residencies, public showings, participatory workshops, and programs for artists, families, youth, and the LGBTQIA communities, Techmoja’s educational programs offer many opportunities for engagement. Techmoja Dance and Theatre Company will be performing “Quiet As It’s Kept.” Two performances are scheduled—Thursday, February 24th at 4:30 pm and 7:30 pm.

About Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company

Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company is committed to furthering contemporary dance as an accessible and valued art form through performance and dance education that raises standards, deepens understanding, and promotes personal connections with dance. The Company pursues its vision through performing innovative original works; provides dance education for all levels and outcomes; tours regionally, nationally, and internationally; and trains artists as performers, educators, and choreographers. Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company will be performing “I can see myself” and “On Being”.  Two performances are scheduled—Thursday, March 17th at 4:30 pm and 8:00 pm.
