A rousing live-action battle scene between toy soldiers and the Mouse King’s army will make you gasp. A magical Mother Ginger character with a two-story dress and dancers scuttling from under her skirts will make you giggle. The 20 foot Chinese dragon and giant Russian nesting dolls are just a taste from the Land of Sweets to make you smile.
Spectacular guest dancers from Atlanta Ballet Theater, Carolina Ballet, and WBC’s own professional core company dazzle, as do the many local youth dancers. Celebrate the majesty of the season with sets and costumes galore in this holiday tradition that won Encore’s “Best Live Performance” for 2014.
The Nutcracker Story:
Clara, a young German girl dreams of a Nutcracker prince after a glorious Christmas party. Her beloved toy comes to life and leads the toy soldiers into a fierce battle against the Mouse King. Victory is won and the Nutcracker becomes a prince. He whisks Clara away to the Land of Snow and the Land of Sweets, even crossing an ocean of mermaids inspired by Wilmington’s coastal magic. The Pas de Deux between Sugar Plum fairy and the Cavalier is not to be missed. Clara wakes up from this incredible dream still holding her Nutcracker. Let us take your imaginations on Clara’s Christmas journey!
