The “Grand Partita” by Mozart whose exquisite beauty tormented Salieri in the feature film Amadeus is paired with Franz Schubert’s “Great”C-Major Symphony, music originally thought to be so difficult that it wasn’t performed until 11 years after the composer’s death.

Operatic Orchestra
Kevin Lawrence, violin
Chair of the String Department at UNC School of the Arts, Kevin Lawrence joins the Symphony for Antonin Dvořák’s tuneful Violin Concerto. Also on the program is a selection of preludes, interludes, and dances from the world of opera, including Richard Strauss’s exotic Dance of the Seven Veils.

Season Finale
Justin Hoke, guitar
Cuban composer Leo Brouwer (known for scoring the film Like Water for Chocolate) has written prolifically for the guitar, and Justin Hoke makes his WSO debut playing Brouwer’s Concierto Elegiaco. The Symphony rounds out the season with Dmitri Shostakovich’s sparkling music for the Soviet film The Gadfly.
