Wilson Center Can’t Curb Its Enthusiasm for J.B. Smoove

Award-winning American stand-up comic, writer, actor and improvisational philosopher J.B. Smoove will be at the Wilson Center on Friday, September 13, 2024 at 7:30pm. Tickets go on-sale on to the general public on Friday, March 1, 2024 at 10:00am.

J.B. Smoove was already well known and much loved before he joined the cast of Curb Your Enthusiasm in 2007 during its 6^th season. Fourteen years later, Smoove’s character Leon Black has left an indelible mark on the show, now in its final season; and J.B. Smoove didn’t say no when Rolling Stone Magazine asked him about a possible Leon spin off, explaining “Maybe I’ll have my wife [singer Shahidah Omar] say I’m going to get a spin-off just to put it into the universe, like she did the first time and got me on the show.” (Klee, Miles. Smoove, born Jerry Angelo Brooks in Plymouth, North Carolina, was raised in Mount Vernon, NY. He began his entertainment career as a hip-hop dancer known as J. Smoove, a clip of him dancing in the Palace Night Club in New Rochelle, NY in 1989 is on his Instagram account. In 1999 Smoove moved to Los Angeles and launched his career as a comedian.

Film credits include the cult-favorite Pootie Tang, as well as Date Night, Hall Pass, The Dictator, Top Five, We Bought A Zoo, Barbershop: The Next Cut, and Almost Christmas. In addition to starring in Curb Your Enthusiasm, Smoove has written for Saturday Night Live, and received a 2007 Writers Guild award for his work on the show. His first television role was on MTV’s The Lyricist Lounge Show. It was followed by celebrated guest spots on The Chris Rock Show and Premium Blend, which led to being hired as a cast member on the sketch comedy Cedric the Entertainer Presents. He continues to star in numerous film and television projects.

J.B. Smoove is a proud supporter of the Mt. Vernon Boys and Girls Club, which he attended. He is passionate about both cars and sports, and once swam with sharks.

The Wilson Center is looking forward to hosting his first appearance in the Port City.
