The Cape Fear Community College Music Department and the Wilson Center at Cape Fear Community College are thrilled to announce a new date for this year’s Annual Music Program Benefit Concert, which will feature the Benny Hill Quintet. The quintet will be joined on stage by CFCC Music student Marc Fatum, on tenor saxophone. This will be both and in-person and livestreamed event, with the concert beginning at 7:30 p.m., on Friday, May 28, 2021.
This free fundraising concert is entirely donation-supported, and all donations support the CFCC Music Program. However, this year an anonymous donor has agreed to match 100% of the first $10,000 in donations. This donation matching will provide an extra boost to the impact of this exciting musical event. All donations are tax deductible.
Those interested in participating in this musical evening may reserve tickets at no cost here beginning May 12, 2021 or watch the stream directly here. Those who wish to support the CFCC Music Program through their tax-deductible gifts may also donate directly on that page as well.
The Benny Hill Quintet is led by CFCC’s own Benny Hill on saxophone, Jerald Shynett on trombone, Brad Merritt on piano, Doug Irving on bass, and Jon Hill will be behind the drums. In addition to helming the Benny Hill Quintet, Hill is a member of the CFCC music faculty, and has been a professional musician for more than 20 years. He has had the opportunity to share the stage with such jazz luminaries as trumpeter Ray Codrington, guitarist Melvin Sparks, trombonist Slide Hampton, drummer Winard Harper, the New Orleans Dirty Dozen Brass Band, legendary guitarist and vocalist Bob Weir, and he has even played with James Brown’s Soul Generals.
The Cape Fear Community College Music Department provides instruction in all aspects of music – including appreciation, theory, and performance – in 135 class sections each year, and offers an Associate of Fine Arts – Music degree. The program also offers students the opportunity to perform in the chorus, the orchestra, or the jazz ensemble; performance groups are not limited to music students, and are open to all students of the college.
