One of the world’s greatest pianists visits Wilmington and Vivace Music Foundation to present Beethoven’s grandest set of variations: the Diabelli. The Calgary Herald says of Carr: “Colin Carr has provided some of the most memorable performances we will ever likely hear…”.
Hats off Gentlemen, a Genius!
Ani Kavafian, Jason Moon, Jennifer Frautschi, Natasha Brofsky & Alexander Kobrin
August 11, 2022 at 7:30 p.m.
Violinist Ani Kavafian has performed as soloist with virtually every major orchestra in the world. Join us as she performs Schumann’s best work with an all-star cast, featuring Vivace artistic advisor Jennifer Frautschi, 2021 Vivace Award Winner Jason Moon, cellist Natasha Brofsky and pianist Alexander Kobrin.
Schumann’s piano quintet highlighted his year of chamber music, in which he composed three string quartets, several pieces for piano trio and a piano quartet. The quintet, however, defined the genre that would later be championed by Brahms, Shostakovich, Franck and Dvorak. The work was premiered by Clara Schumann (and published on her birthday!).
The Van Cliburn of Today
Alexander Kobrin, piano
August 13, 2022 at 7:30 p.m.
Referred to as the Van Cliburn of today by the BBC, virtuoso Alexander Kobrin returns to Vivace for a dynamic program of works by Schubert, Brahms, Scriabin and Rachmaninoff. Gold medalist in the 2005 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition and top prizes at the Busoni, Hamamatsu and Chopin competitions, Kobrin is a virtuoso like none other. According to The New York Times: “He surrendered neither the smoothness nor the dynamic fluidity that the modern piano allows, and he gave his sense of fantasy free rein, creating an almost confessional spirit.”
