Spanish Harlem Orchestra Stirs Up Salsa at CFCC’s Wilson Center

Spanish Harlem Orchestra

Here’s a challenge: try not to move your hips while listening to the electric ensemble of Latin jazz musicians in Spanish Harlem Orchestra. Take it from us, there’s no way to sit still with the sweet rhythm and perfect blend of rhythm and motion ringing through your ears. The symphony of brass, crisp vocals, and pulsing keys echoes the harmony of authentic, Latin salsa and Jazz, and gives even the most rigid dancer something to tap their toes to.

In the twenty years since their musical debut, the thirteen-member ensemble has written and produced eight studio albums, been nominated for six GRAMMY awards, and won three GRAMMY awards. Once you’ve heard the masterful and lively expression of song throughout their discography, it’s easy to understand how they’ve achieved such high regard from their initial recording.

Spanish Harlem Orchestra’s sound, spearheaded by band leader Oscar Hernández, is reminiscent of his time in the barrio (Spanish Harlem, NYC). The nostalgia rings through every note, cultivating a lively musical experience through familiarity. Edmonton Journal writes, “More than just expert, authentic, tight Latin jazz, it’s a true work of art. And when you hear its infectious rhythms, good luck trying not to move.”

Experience the legendary production of salsa and jazz as Spanish Harlem Orchestra takes center stage at the Wilson Center on Thursday, October 3, 2024 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets will be available online and through our box office on Wednesday, June 10, 2024 at 10 a.m. Whether you’re a veteran salsa dancer or only comfortable shimmying your shoulder, you’ll be hard pressed to sit still during Spanish Harlem Orchestra’s mesmerizing music.
