With a blend of numerous South African languages and English, the fusion of culture creates rich texture, harmonies, and an infectious, palpable spirit.
CFCC’s Wilson Center is proud to announce that South African worship group, Soweto Gospel Choir, will be performing live in concert on Monday, September 29, 2025 at 7:30 p.m.
Soweto Gospel Choir was formed to celebrate the unique and inspirational power of African Gospel music. The awe inspiring, 20-member choir draws on the best talent from the many churches in and around Soweto, South Africa, and is dedicated to sharing the joy of faith through music with audiences around the world.
Across the span of their impressive twenty-two-year career, Soweto Gospel Choir has won three Grammy-Awards for Best Traditional World Music Album, been nominated for Best Original Song at the Golden Globes and Academy Awards, and performed at the 2010 FIFAL World Cup final Draw.
Soweto Gospel Choir returns to North America with their tour HOPE—It’s Been A Long Time Coming. This special program celebrates American and South African artists and highlights the struggles for civil rights and social justice throughout their countries’ complex histories, through South African freedom songs, traditional gospel music, and the music of Aretha Franklin, Harry Belafonte, and Mahalia Jackson.
